That version of August is over. The block between Scottsdale Road and Goldwater has a denser resident-facing programming grid this month than it does in February, and the shift is deliberate.
On July 20, the City of Scottsdale approved a year-round Old Town marketing strategy aimed at boosting visitation and supporting local businesses through the slow months. The venues did not wait for the vote. Chef's Week, Sunday bartender competitions, and a two-night WestWorld festival were already on the calendar. What the vote does is formalize the direction the district was already heading: August is a resident month now, and the programming reflects who's actually in town.
Arizona Chef's Week Is The Tell
The clearest signal is Arizona Chef's Week, running July 31 through August 9. The framing matters. This is not a restaurant week built around chain steakhouses and hotel dining rooms. It's ten days of prix fixe menus at independently owned restaurants, and the promotional lead-up has been an "Inside the Kitchen" interview series with the chefs themselves.

Sundays Belong To Hotel Valley Ho
The other calendar to memorize is the 8th annual Bar Brawl at Hotel Valley Ho, running Sundays from July 26 through August 23. Bar Brawl is a bartender competition with live music and bites, and the 2026 field pulls from rooms residents already know.
Cheer on your favorite Old Town bartender including Fernando Bambaren of Virtù Honest Craft, Alexis Patino of Toca Madera and Juan Garcia of The Ends.
Read that lineup as a map. Virtù sits on the quieter Craftsman Court side of the district. Toca Madera anchors the higher-volume Camelback end. The Ends is one of the newer additions to the late-night circuit. A resident who spends five Sundays at Hotel Valley Ho this summer has, in effect, tasted the top of three different Old Town sub-blocks without leaving one pool deck.
The Weeknight Grid: Rockbar And Boondocks

The Bookend: Night Trip Festival At WestWorld
The month closes with Night Trip Festival Arizona on August 29 and 30 at WestWorld of Scottsdale, a deep house, tech house, and techno festival that runs from 6 p.m. into the early morning. WestWorld sits north of Old Town proper, but the festival draws from the same demographic that fills Old Town's rooftops on weekends, and it functions as a de facto Labor Day-adjacent bookend for the district's August calendar.
If you live in Old Town and are not going, plan around it anyway. Rideshare pricing on both nights will behave the way it does during Barrett-Jackson week, and the late crowd that spills back into Old Town after the last set has been part of the district's summer rhythm for several years now.
The Broader Shift Worth Understanding
Zoom out for a second. The reason all of this matters, and the reason the July 20 marketing vote passed, is that the composition of Old Town's dining and hospitality inventory is changing underneath the calendar.
Independent local operators are still driving the resident calendar in August. Chef's Week is built on chef-owned rooms. Bar Brawl is built on bartender talent from independently operated bars. At the same time, the pipeline of national and celebrity-backed concepts arriving in and around Old Town, from the rooftop Cielito at the AC Hotel Scottsdale Old Town to BOA Steakhouse at Scottsdale Waterfront and Drake's Hollywood, is thickening the tourist-season programming that will land in October through April.
The residents' version of Old Town and the visitors' version of Old Town used to share a calendar. They are starting to separate. August, as of 2026, is the resident half.
A Working Local's August Calendar

The point of the list is not completeness. It's that August programming in Old Town now rewards residents who plan two or three specific evenings rather than residents who assume the month will be quiet.

The value of a walkable Old Town address has always been priced in resort-season access. What's changing is the residents' calendar. When the city and the district commit to year-round programming, and independent operators respond with independently programmed August calendars, the "twelve usable months" argument for Old Town-adjacent ownership gets stronger, not weaker. That is a slow shift, and it does not show up in a median price chart. It shows up in how full the sidewalk between Craftsman Court and 5th Avenue is on a Tuesday in August.
